winchester Super Pheasant for turkey?
I have a Remington 1100 with a 2 3/4" chamber and at my local store all i can find is Super Pheasant and Winchester universal.
and no stores around me sell #4,#5 or #6 shot for reloading, So i had to get the Super Pheasant. I Was wondering, Do you think it would be good for turkeys? heres the specs off the box, "12 gauge, 2 3/4 inches, 1300 FPS, 1 3/8 OZ., 6 Copper-plated" |
Sure it will work, turkeys are kind of like "super pheasants". Keep your shots close, like between 20 and 30 yds and you should be fine. Be sure to pattern your gun to determine your effective range with that load.

If you have time check Bass Pro online. I was at my local store last week and was checking prices of 3.5 shells. I looked for 2 3/4 shells for kicks since my grandpa gave me his old 1100. I may break it out once I knock down a bird with real favorite turkey killer!
Have fun and get after them thunder chickens! |
they didn't pattern to well, hopefully i can find some turkey loads or some shot so i can load some.

What choke is your gun? Is it a fixed choke, or does it accept choke tubes? A standard full choke is a good place to start. Tighter chokes are available.

I just recently got a Primos JellyHead, but its not working as good as i thought it would.
I got 73 total hits in a 10 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of paper at 40 yards with my handloads, and with the super pheasant it was about 40 somthing total hits at 40 yards with the Super Pheasant there was a HUGE dropoff from 30 Yards to 40 yards. so if i keep my shots within 30yards i'll be good. But as of right now I'm looking for reloading recipes and Turkey loads. |
Jellyhead is a good tube, just have to find the right load good luck with it. As previously posted go online and check some out, I shoot a jellyhead with hevi shot magnum blend and it does a great job

What reload were you using? If nothing else, take the shot out of the Super Pheasant and load it in your home load.
