Okay Beard or Spur ? Which One?
I think I have a possible couple birds around that may be multi-bearded and a couple with nice long hooks. Which would you rather take the multi-beard or the big spurs?.
So! This One? ![]() This One? ![]() Maybe this one? ![]() Or why not this guy ? ![]() |
Beard, every time, for me.
Yup beard for me too! I've got a nice 2 bearded mounted in the man cave.
Spurs for me - and if ya see the spurs the bird is definitely in range! AND is the only way to age a bird!
First pic might be a double beard - but I bet not as the beard looks wet. JW |
I have a bunch of pics of this bird and the beard always looks the same. All the other birds in the area have one long beard except one other that appears to split in two. This one has several that are all different lengths so I am hoping he has more than one but maybe not.
Beard for me also. The only time I notice the spurs is when I go to pick them up.
Spurs impress me more as they are the better indicator of age. I've shot a good many 2 year old birds that had a really nice beard but very few birds with 1 1/2 inch spurs.
I love the beards but my choice is spurs. I want to hang one by its spurs from a limb.
Killed plenty of big bearded birs but never have killed one with the giant daggers.
BOTH!! LOL!! I would say beard while I'm hunting, but when I bust one I can't wait to check those spurs out. I've shot many with 9-10 inch beards but it's bragging time when he's got 1"+ spurs!!!
I love the birds that have a nice set of hooks, but beards are nice as well.
I would say multiple beard birds are usually harder to come by than long spurs. With that being said I would rather take the multiple beard bird. I took a four bearded bird in Nabraska three years ago and it was awesome experience.
I like the multi bearded birds. I killed a 7 bearded bird about 8 years ago, still waiting for one to top that. We have killed several double bearded birds, a handful of triple bearded birds, and a couple 4 bearded birds on our farms. I killed a double bearded bird last year and have one on camera. Hope to wrap a tag on his leg in April, that's if DTC Jr doesn't do it first.
I'd rather have the beard or beards, I could care less how long spurs are on a bird.
None of the above for me. The heaviest bird I've killed was last year at 23 lbs., I'm after a 24 lb one next but my goal is a 25 lb bird. May never happen, but have to keep looking.
Don't get me wrong, beards and spurs are definitely a plus, I just have my goal and weight is more important to me. dog1 |
Spurs, it's the only way to truely age a bird. In rocky terrain, not so much.
Get a set a hooks, and you just fooled a wise old bird. |
I just kill jakes….so I don’t have to worry bout beards and spurs
I prefer long sharp hooks. Ya know you've fooled an old bird.

Spurs, but the first one of any of those that gets in gun range is dead.
Beards or spurs, I don't care both are cool. Fun to shoot either way. I have multiple double beards, but still looking for the triple or more.

Beards are cool, but spurs are the nuts!

Those are some nice birds RR

This is the best bird I've ever seen and was able to get him the second year I hunted him in 2006. I'm pretty sure he was 4 years old and weighed 23 1/2 pounds. His beard is 10 1/2 inches long and the spurs are 1 1/2 inches. The fan is 30" across and 20" high, by far the best I've ever shot.
