Mossberg 835 ulti-mag
Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone has any experience with an 835 Mossberg, I just took one in on trade and was wondering what to expect, it has the 28" barrel, and came with 4 Mossberg Accu-Mag chokes, a leadshot full, a leadshot modified, a leadshot I/C, and a steelshot X-Full. so what can I expect? I mostly picked this shotgun up for Turkey hunting this spring because of the 3 and a half inch chamber.

Love mine for turkey, have it now for roughly 14 years. I use a Indian Creek Turkey Choke, an Hevi-Shot 13, 3.5", 2.25oz, #6

I love mine, I shoot 3 1/2 5's in it and man will it through a pattern. I killed both of my birds and my brother killed his bird with it at about 65 yards, layed the smack down on him. It does kick but all well i still ove it.

I had an 835 about 10yrs ago. It jammed on me all the time. Though I was using it for waterfowl, not turkeys.
I sold it to a friend who even after tearing it all down and cleaning it very thoroughly, still jammed frequently. |
The 835 is a bad ass turkey gun.. probably the number 1 pump turk gun out there... I have an 835 thats been retired to a goose gun lately since I replaced it with my new gun.... but that system is no slouch

I love mine, use it for turkey only. I will admit it doesn't really like the 3 1/2" shells (jams sometimes) and it kicks like a mule, but on the plus side, it's light, fairly inexpensive, and mine has a 21" barrel.
Like all turkey guns, you'll probably have to experiment with choke/ammo combinations, unless the previous owner has already done the homework. I sent mine to Rob Roberts to get fine-tuned, in the end it cost less $$ than buying chokes and turkey loads. I've got it now to where it throws a pattern the size of my steering wheel at 50 yards. http://gobblerguns.com/flash/index02.html |

I won a 835 at a NWTF banquet several years ago. I have taken many birds since I have had it. I replaced the original choke tube that came with the gun this past year with the Jelly Head tube. Seems to have worked out fine so far this year, doubled on a pair of birds in early May. I use Federal copper plated 3" # 6 shells. I am too old to be shooting those 3 1/2 shoulder busters.
