Tom Breeding Hen Decoy

Hey all
Last year we picked up this breeding decoy Tom on Hen and when the Tom came out and saw it he immediately went out of strut and returned to the bush.
My buddy nailed him before he disappeared so we called it a success.
Today's Tom saw the same thing and would not commit and walked off!
What is up?
Too early in the season this is our opening day or is this a bad set up?
My other buddy has the same decoy and got busted as well?
We are not going to use this till we figure it out any ideas??
Later

I was going to suggest the same thing; keep them about half a yard to a yard apart.

I just use a regular hen decoy, and a regular jake decoy. The jake is less submissive looking to a tom. I place the hen on the ground, and stake the jake overtop her back.

I dont know what to tell ya with that one........ maybe they figure shes already being bred by a tom so no point in trying???? I am new to turkey hunting, but we just use a strutter a jake and a hen........ seems to work alright, we place the strutter and hen without a couple yards of each other with the jake kinda stay back 5-10 yards like hes keeping his distance. They seem to have no problems with this setup.

Those toms may have already been whupped on by a dominant tom. In that case they'll likely be a little skittish around another gobbler. They don't have it in'em to pick a fight.

Somebody (Primos?) makes an undersized full bodies gobbler decoy. The smaller size is supposedly less intimidating and more likly to entice a bigger gobbler to come in.

I have a decoy set of a tom, a jake and a hen. I've put them out in all combinations. The best placment I've found for my tom & jake decoys is in my closet. I've only had luck when the hen was placed alone.

Maybe it's me, maybe it's the decoys, maybe it's the turkeys.

That is what I think have only had luck with hen decoy's or add in a jake
Jake hen set up tonight but I missed had to shoot off handed :(

If I am trophy hunting I am using this for sure my buddy and I are meat hunters so the first beard that comes in gets it!
It is a awesome set up but not for me right now maybe in the future
Back to the jake hen set up
:) WOOTWOOT
