Colorado Turkey Season 2011
 

To all my fellow Colorado Turkey Hunters I would love to hear your report from opening weekend and here I will give you mine.

Saturday:

Got my hunting buddy Marky B. his gobbler first thing in the morning @ 6:45am! I called the boss hen in and the big ole gobbler followed her in! We didn't even have time to setup the decoys.

Hunted the rest of the day Saturday and Sunday morning and got a few more gobbles but it was like the toms went silent for the rest of the weekend! And the few gobbles we would get back were toms not interested and kept moving away from us even when we would give chase!

Any thoughts?... Would love to hear everyone else in COLORADO'S opening weekend experience.

Havent made it out yet unfortunately. Hoping to get out early on saturday though.

Skipped the weekend I am leaving in a couple of hours to hunt for a few days.
I would bet the gobblers had hens with them.

So far Ive hunted every weekend since the season opened to no avail. Gobblers arent talking. I had a chance at a big tom this evening but shot my arrow over his back, so after I finished kicking myself I decided to reach out for some help. Any help ya'll can throw my way would be much appreciated. thanks

Not sure what your doing on your hunts so here gos..........
Find the roost and set up in their rout of travel use decoys, using decoys can encourage the turkeys to fly down to them if you are within 100 yards of the roost. Also even a bow hunter can stalk get ahead set up and take a gobbler although some think it's to risky, but I say no risk no gain.
I stalked my last and best gobbler for a couple hours this season when he was hened up, even got busted by several jakes, I froze and they went back to eating.

I didn't hunt the weekend but the next wk, got my Merriam gobbler wed. He was hened up and I followed the flock for a couple hrs. I only heard him gobble one time but I didn't get into the area until just after 8am, Very late for me but I knew it was still poss. to find a gobbler even if I had not hunted the area before and if I couldn't I would be able to get in early next morning.

You might try stalking the flock tell you can get a shot like I did.

i am hunting just outside woodland park. i just cant seem to get the birds to make any noise at all. Ive tried everything i can think of to locate the birds but like i said they just aren't talking. but the advice is appreciated.

Speaking of Colorado...Ill be getting stationed there in about a year and it will be just in time for spring turkey any thoughts on where to go around Colorado Springs? I do not wanna hunt on base any help would be great
