Too many decoys?

Dear all,

I have 2 sets of decoys (1 male & two females each set) for when my wife and I both hunt at the same time at different locations.

If she is not going out one morning and I put out all 6 decoys at my location, is this a bad idea? Overkill?

Thanks for any input

G.

That just depends on the situtation. I myself think its too many. I wont use a jake decoy, but thats just me. Ive never had any luck using a jake. Others swear by them but I never have any luck with one. I usually put out 2 or 3 decoys.

I'm going to try a jake with a couple hens this year... We'll see how it goes!!!

I used 2 Hens and a Jake set up last year and had 5 birds come in with this set up and another hunt I used just the 2 Hens and had our biggest Tom come in on them. In my situation the Jake and 2 Hens set up seemed to hurt nothing other than bringing in other Jakes on one of my hunts where 4 Jakes came in together.

I used one hen and one jake set up.But some time I used one her.I have used two jakes and one hen and one jake the tail going up and down.

Bow hunting I like 1 or 2 hen decoys setup about 7 yards from the blind, but when I'm gun hunting I quite often don't even use a decoy because I'm constantly on the move. All depends on the situation, I personally wouldn't want to carry 6 decoys if I'm gonna only use one or two.

I don't use decoys much but I don't think it would hurt to have all those decoys just looks like a small flock with no gobbler, so a gobbler just might like the odds of breeding.
I only use 2 or 3 if i use them at all, using 1 or 2 hens with one Jake.

My typical setup is two jakes and two hens, with two on one side and two on the other of a blind setup... If I am doin a more mobile setup and doin alot of movin, I will usually just setup with one hen or a hen and a jake...

i have killed birds with no deks and i have killed birds using 7 deks. bottom line is you dont need any but i doubt you can have to many. i have never had a bird see my set with a bunch of deks and leave like they do sometimes with one or two deks.

i have taken my turkeys without decoys, but recently I have been trying to use them more to set up in some locations to keep the eyes off of the hunters. I can't see where more decoys would be a bad thing either.
