Worst patterns I've ever seen
Good Morning folks. You all would laugh at the patterns my new Winchester Super X3 throws. TERRIBLE!!!!! I tried every shell available in my area and can't get a good group. I'm shooting the SX3 with and Pure Gold .670 I'm not getting anywhere near the performance that you all are getting. In fact, my son's Remington 870 20 ga with a Jellyhead choke and 3" Winchester 6s shoots way better patterns than my gun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a new SX3 last year and had the same result. Never have found a shell and choke combo in 3 1/2" that is even marginally good. Very expensive paper weight at this point.

That is disappointing.... Maybe someone will have some good advice for you. I shoot an 870 - so I can't offer any suggestions.

The SX3 is definitely capable of putting up some big numbers with its backbored barrel and invector plus choke system.
Were you shooting at a large piece of paper to make sure that the gun is shooting to point of aim? Have you tried to adjust the stock with the drop and cast shims? What kind of shells were you using? Short of Nitro's, I have had my best patterns with an Indian Creek .675 shooting Hevi-13 3.5" 2.25oz #7's. Having said that Hevi-13 3.5" 2.25oz #6's, Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7's and #6's all performed very well too. |
99.9% of the post on hear are about people shooting Benelli's Remingtons and Mossbergs... Getting great patterns...
Only thing that i buy that Winchester makes is SHELLS!!!! Sell that paper weight and go by a Remington 870 super mag:wink: |

One of my buddies has that gun and has gotten good patterns out of it. I know he bought an aftermarket choke tube but I'm not sure what brand. I could ask him for you. I would strongly suggest trying a couple different tubes. I shoot an undertaker choke in my 11-87 and it patterns awesome!! I think they sell for only like $20 or so. A small fee considering what you paid for the gun. The gun should be capable of patterning well. You've tried different shells, the next step would be chokes.

Are you shooting Pb or HTL? What loads have you tried so far?

Lead or Heavier-than-lead (hevi-shot, etc)

Just had a friend that bought one of these guns and he ordered a TRUGLO choke for it and brought it to my work to pattern it... IT DID GREAT for a inexpensive choke.. $17 i think he ordered it from them direct.. but for $20 or less it may be worth a try

I'm pretty sure it says not to use a full choke on this gun in the users guide.
I shoot the mod invector tube and kill birds. You guys countin pellets is pretty funny to lsiten to tho |
I'm hunting with 3.5" hevi 13 #7s if that helps.

Not sure what you are refering to when you say: Pb or HTL????????????
HTL = Heavier than Lead such as Hevi•Shot®, Federal® Heavyweight®, Remington® Wingmaster HD®, and Winchester® Xtended Range™. |
OK folks I have something to confess:s14:. Primos named one of their chokes after me, the tightwad. Let me explain. When I first started sighting the gun in I used regular old #7 dove loads just to get on paper at 20 yards. I then moved back to 40 yards and shot some Winchester 3&1/2", #6s. The patterns were terrible. I did this thinking that the difference between the Winchesters and the Hevy 13 #7s couldn't be that much after doing some post from you all there is a huge difference between the two. I'm going out tomorrow with my Hevi 13s and shoot it again at a much larger target and see what happens. I wonder if I can get more Hevi 13 #7s within a week? I know, I know, I should have known better and sighted in with what I intend to hunt with :s7:.

I shoot the Rem 870 sup. mag myself and love the tight patterns I get with many dif. shells. You might have some luck contacting the manufacture and finding out what they recommend for your shotgun in order to get the best pattern.

I went back to the range today with some Hevi 13 #7s and the patterns that I got were much better. I have to get some more ammo here by the weekend. Thanks for all the advice.

Glad you got it shooting the way you wanted.

Thanks for all the help!!!
