Clothing Needed For Turkey Hunting?
 

What do you all wear when turkey hunting? In Ohio the season starts April 18th and ends May 15th and the temperature will normally range from the high 50's to the high 60's. What clothing is needed for turkey hunting? What do you recommend for a new turkey hunter?

Camo from head to toe; including head cover and gloves.

Put these on over whatever cloths you need for the weather.

Layer yourself.

I wear long johns- top and bottom and is duofold, then bibs and a lite wt camo shirt and then maybe a fleece pull over and a flannel jacket.

All is in camo except the long johns.

On rainy days I may wear my Goretex mt50 rainsuit.

That way as it gets warmer I can add or take off what I expect I don't need.

If you wear a vest, you might get hot quicker than you think. I went to a strap vest instead of a full vest. Where I hunt (North Texas, South Arkansas) it is usually in the 50s to 70s in April so I usually wear UA Warm Gear, Mossy Oak Obsession six pocket pants and collared shirt, and snake boots which are a must down here. If it is a little cooler (40's), I will substitue my Medallist Silvermax long underwear for the UA Warm gear.

I walk a lot when turkey hunting so getting cold usually isn't a problem. But I lost eighty-five pounds since last turkey season, so we will see if I get colder without the additional insulation that I had.

I have light gloves and facemask as well as a hat to finish out my ensemble.

I also layer, long johns then lots of camo.
Hunting the Rocky's you can start out in the 20's and then it heats up to 60 or more and cooling down again after 3 pm. I always have either extra space in my pack to store shirts or I can hang shirts and a jacket over my pack then put them back on later in the day.

I agree with JW, got to go with layers! It's not uncommon here to be in the 30's at daylight and mid 70's in the day. I wear a long sleave and sometimes a jacket, but always wear a leafy suit. When it's late season here I can wear a tee and still be camoed with my leafy suit. Don't forgt your mask and gloves!

I layer as well. On top, however, is always leafy stuff. I have the Cabelas ghil-leaf pants, which is by far the best leafy stuff I have ever had...tough, and has belt loops, and a Realtree pro-series lightweight jacket. On colder, early season mornings I may wear some UA stuff underneath, and on warmer days and afternoons I will wear just my undies underneath. They are good for keeping you pretty cool, as they are mesh-like. +1 on the vest comment. I do have a full vest, and it can get you hot in a hurry. I may look into a strap-style vest, but haven't done so yet.

I do long johns camo cargo pants a short sleeve shirt a long sleeve shirt and my strap vest and archery gloves and i always carry a back pack with a pancho in it in case it rains along with snacks

I layer as needed for the weather, but the top is always a leafy suit of some sort. My favorite is ASAT.

Shorts and a camo t-shirt with my 3d leafy suit over them and face mask(for the bugs)... It's been 80 degrees all week and tough hunting down here in FL, mosquito's and ticks are super bad this year.

I'm glad I'm not having to put on long johns and multiple layers though!!!
