Need Decoy Setup Advice

Can anyone tell me about how far away from the blind the decoys should be set up? I was planning to set the decoys and the blind up first and then attempt to call in birds. How many yards from the blind is best?

First of all Welcome to the forum.. I am no expert on this but I believe fifteen to twenty yards is ideal. However I am just learning to hunt with the decoys as well.

your decoys should be at ideal shooting range..shotgun er bow?
take a nap, wake up now and then to see if the decoys have multiplied. gl

A blind or ground setup your decoys should be as discribed above at 15 - 20 yards from your setup point. Sometimes if I use two I will place one close to my calling and one a 15 yards out. Really there is no rule of thumb, its what a hunter gather success with using...

15 yards and have them facing towards the blond but not directly. Have your blind facing the direction where you would best expect a tom to come from. When a tom see's the back of your decoys he will exentually try to get in front of them (between you and the decoys) and will h opefully make for an easy shot. Good luck. this is by far my favorite way to hunt turkeys and most productive!

I would have to agree with everyone so far. I don't use blinds but have had very good success setting deeks out about 15 yds. As far as direction I don't know, I'm using a shotgun so I just try to make them look natural.

Good luck this season!

I agree with Matchbox454,
Assuming you are setting up in a known roost, feeding, strut, or travel zone you want the decoys close in as Matchbox454 described.

I set my decoys no farther than 20 yards and I face them towards the blind. If its real windy I move the decoys closer and get louder with my calling. Thats just me though... :)

I set my decoys at 10 to 15 yards looking right at me. I hunt out of a blind. I am a bow hunter.Good luck

I set up my decoys about the same 15-20 yards max. I don't hunt out of a blind I hunt with a shotgun, but I put my decoys just a little to my left and facing me because I'm right handed. Then shoot them in the face.
