I agree with Ccleroy
I shoot a Rem. 870 with a Rhino .660 turkey choke and my ammo is Nitro 4x5x7.
I shoot 65 pellets in the head and neck at 40 yards!
Every gun shoots different and everybody has there fav.

Most importantly pattern your gun.

Any shotgun will do !

Don't need anything fancy.

Just gotta shoot them in the head.

Recommend #4 to #6 shot and a Xtra full or full choke depending on the distance.

Dead bird........what else do you want it to do !?

There are probably ideal turkey guns out there, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Use what you have. I am using a Ruger Red Lable O/U 12 guage. I have shot 2 turkeys with it so far. I have TC Encore with a blackpowder barrel and will probalby get the turkey barrel for it someday, but for now I am satisfied with a double barrel.

I've got 3 870 turkey guns... All 3 shoot out to 40-50 yards...

I've known 4 people over the past 15 years that us Mossbergs... None of those shot guns shoot as good as my 870's... Two of the guys sent there guns to Mark Bransner to have sleeves put in the barrels and they still wouldn't out do my Remington... Even had one of the guys tell me that he was going to by a remington lol...

You can buy a mossberg if you want... Look at all the big names in turkey hunting... There either shooting a Remington or a Benelli... I doubt a 1000-1500 dollar shotgun will out shoot my Remington...

Just shoot them in the head.....................dead bird.

What's the problem ??

Kill most of my longbeards at 15 yards.

Any 12 ga shotgun with at least a 21" barrel and a modified to extra full choke tube will work 90% of birds are killed at 25 yards or less anyways. Grandads old 1897 Winchester 12ga will kill em at that range. Also a 3" 20ga is a good choice for out to 30 yards. Now in my opinion a remington 870 express is as good of a turkey gun as it gets my second favorite is a Remington 1187 both those work great and won't breat the bank. Stay away from mossberg

These are all great set-up's ... I love my Rem 870's (have 20 & 12 gauge) I like 3.0 #5 shot.

My first shotgun in 1952 was a Win. mod.12/20ga and took many turkeys with it (still have it)....In the 1960's I bought a Rem. 1100 12ga. and took many turkeys with it (still have it)...In 1967 I bought a Brn A5 and I took many turkeys with it (still have it)...In the 70's I bought a Moss. 500 and Win 1300 and took many turkeys with it (still have them)...In the 80's I bought a Moss. 835 Combo and took many turkeys with it (still have it).....

Patterning, Choke and Shot Size is the answer to any shotgun you buy....Anyone you are comfortable with and can pattern with is the answer....
