What's a good box call ?

I currently have a lohmann box call but I am thinking of buying a better one. Are some of the high dollar custom made box calls that much better than the one that I already have or is it just a waste of money? Sound off fellas

swokie,

IMO a custom box call has it all over mass produced box calls. Now there are mass produced box calls that kill gobblers every year and those people who use them, swear by them. Most of them I suspect have an exception to the rule. I think any box call maker who takes the time and makes them by hand would be a better bet. You dont have to pay over $50 bucks for one either. I have though. I have bought 2 so far and both were around $80-$90 bucks. To me good custom box calls are like everything else, you get what you pay for. Most custom makers will take the call back and make it right or make you a new one if you dont like the sound. The man I have delt with will do that. Midwest Turkey Supply has alot of custom box call makers in there catalog. There is also a web site called www.cutomcalls.com that has alot of custom makers web sites on it.

Take care.

I think Lynch is one of those &quot;exceptions&quot; that &quot;brushbuster&quot; mentioned above. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Knowing the history of Lynch box calls I still consider them to be more than a &quot;run of the mill&quot; production call (even though they technically are). They sound fantastic and I know I won't be in the woods without a Fool Proof. Having said that I can also say that when I compare the quality of today's Lynch and my Father's old Lynch there isn't much comparison. Even though they still sound great it seems they don't even bother to sand the new ones. To me, that is taking a shortcut or doing a half-&quot;baked&quot; job. I think that's were custom calls pick it up. The quality is just better than &quot;store bought&quot;.
