constriction question
 

I had a choke that was in .665 constriction and it cracked. I contacted the manufacturer and they were out of the .665 but the gentleman asked me what ammo I was using (heavy-13 3.5" #6) and said that the .675 would work with that load better. I have patterned the the gun with this choke and it is a great pattern but that's not my question. I was sure that .675 would be more open than a .665 but on their web site it is talking about constriction. With .675 being a higher number would .675 of constriction be tighter?

The .675" and .665" refers to the exit diamter of the choke tube. Since .665" is smaller than .675", it is a tighter constriction. Also, tighter constriction does not necessarily mean tighter patterns. Often with hard shot such as H-13, TSS, Steel, too tight of choke constriction will produce uneven and more open patterns.

That's what thought also and then my wife got to looking at it and clouded my mind. It's not that I don't like this choke it's that I was wondering if I should return it for the original size.

Indian Creek turkey choke. Their customer service has been great just at the time they were out of the choke I had.

Indian Creek is top notch in my book. I used to shoot a Primos Jellyhead until I tried an IC. I've talked to Mike and Stuart and both are pretty good guys. I'd listen to what they recommend. They know what they are doing and I doubt they'd steer you wrong.
