RE: Trapping in your area ?
let me rephrase this, must modify:D
i would FREAK....................[:' (][:@][X(]but i would understand why..... if it was for those reasons above, now if it was just another way to get a bird, hell yeah , i would freak........... |
RE: Trapping in your area ?
Usually if there is trapping being done its because there is a surplus of turkeys and the area can support the trapping. The numbers trapped are usually not great enough to significantly impact the hunting in that area. Also, look at the greater picture. The turkeys being trapped will help another area and will foster good turkey hunting in that state in the future. Only good things can come from trap and release programs. IMHO.

RE: Trapping in your area ?
They could probably trap quite a few birds from around this area and nobody would notice. We' ve got quite a population of turkeys all over the state of MO.

I have to side with Kitsap, because like him, I wouldn' t have an opportunity to hunt them wtih out trapping. Turkey aren' t native to WA. along with many other states which now hold huntable numbers of Turkey. Thankfully it is now available for me:D

RE: Trapping in your area ?
Adrian, good topic,, I know you are a real turkey man, from some of your post
i have read on TSO, most of us have benifited from relocation, and no greater sucsess story then the wild turkey, as you know, were I live in westernn.y. we owe a big thank' s to the state of vermont:D for relocation some 50 year' s ago, and also P.A. for natural influx of bird, anthing a state or prove can do to help out, they should do, without question,,:D |
RE: Trapping in your area ?
Trap and release is great for the flocks... Plus, it helps relations with farmers/homeowners who (at least here in WA) are the ones calling and asking for the birds removal. Not only that, but the trapping and releasing is a great time - especially for the kids. The whole experience is A+ in my book.
And if you think about the actual trap, I think the most ever trapped in one shoot doesn' t exceed 100... Most of them are below 40. Turkey Call Magazine had a great breakdown of this by state this month. |
