What is a good shotgun for turkey hunting?
 

I'm new to the turkey hunting scene and having only upland shotguns, what is a good type of shotgun for tukeys? I know everyone will say something different, but I have no idea really.

Do you happen to have any with screw in chokes??? Chokes and ammo have come a long ways in the past couple of decades...Many turkey hunters use 20 gauges or 2 3/4, 12 gauge shotguns...

I happened to have a Browning B-80 and installed a Hastings choke which has been a deadly combo the past few years...

If I were buying a dedicated turkey gun, I'd probably go with a Remington 870 or Browning pump,in 3 inch mag...

Any shotgun that will put a good pattern at 30 are 40 yards.
Try different shells and cokes.

Mossberg 835 hands down

remington 870 by far. also ive seen many mossberg 535s and 500s set up for turkeys lately

I agree with the one poster you may have a good gun already if they have screw in chokes.

MY Personal favorite and the one that I would say to get is one that I personally own a Remington SP-10 10 ga with thumbhole stock and camo also comes with a briley choke tube. You will hear about how heavy they are they weigh 11 lbs but are really nice as far as recoil goes I have owned 12 ga guns that have more recoil than either of my 10 ga guns. I shoot a browning bps 10 ga as well with slugs and 2 1/4 oz turkey loads.

whatever fits you the best just don't fall for the myth that the 10 will have more recoil than a 12 with equal loads this is wrong. Brownings bps 10's are a good choice they make an nwtf model as well.

It's any shotgun that patterns well at the distance you think you can bring them into (dead bird).

Remember; they kill them with a stick and string....................

I would add this to what has been said- Make sure the gun has no shine on it. Some will agree and some won't, but there are some stick on camo tapes that leave no residue.
Also a good pattern at 40 yds in a must....And I am not taking 5-10 BB's in the kill zone I want more. I have shot a Beneli Nova and I currently shoot a 535 Thunmbhole. The Nova had a Hastings choke that work well for me and got 30+ BB's in the kill zone. The 535 gets closer to 50 at 40yds. I use a SSX and I really like it.

You first need to decide what gauge. Prolly 12 or 20. Remingtons are really good, and thier fairly cheap. Get you a good choke tube, some other gear(calls, decoys, etc.) and take it to the range or somewhere and pattern it. Another choice you have is what kind of turkey load you want to use. Everyone has a different opinion, so its up to you.

i hunted many years with a 835/mossberg ultra mag...with number 5's 3 1/2 in load that thing would swack a turkey out side of 50 yards easy...i traded up for a beneli (how ever you spell it) it is everything the 835 ultra mag was just lighter and better looking...
