First double beard
took shooting bird number 24 to finally get a non-typical. Not that I was ever targeting this objective but it was a nice bonus. I have 2 full mounts and I would be turkey meat myself if my wife found another one show up so the roosted mount will have to wait for the next double beard:rolleyes:
![]() spurs were 1 1/8, he weighed around 23-24 lbs (300lb scale is not real accurate). I just enjoyed having the double beards and to be honest I never measured them in all my excitement. I'll have to do that but I'm guessing around 9 inches and 8 inches for them. ![]() |
awesome... congrats... i'd have that one mounted...

Fine trophy there, Ontelk... CONGRATS...
Beautiful bird... I got lucky and my first multiple beard bird was my 3rd spring gobbler...He had twin 9.5 " beards and I killed him in 1977.. I've killed 3 or 4 double beards since then and one with 4 beards... HOWEVER...The only one that I KNEW had a double beard before I shot him was that very first one in 1977...It was a rainy morning and when he came in strutting, his beards were separated and looked like a FU MANCHU moustache... |
Congrats on your Double Beard!!!
This season I was trying to tell my 10 year old son that multi bearded birds were kind of rare and that most folks never take one..... 1/2 hour into legal shooting light on opening day..... he takes a 25 lbs beast with 9 1/8" and 9 1/2" beards! He told me.... "are you sure they are that rare?" LOL! ![]() |
