sanding a copper pot

I am learning to use a pot call that has a copper top. It sounded pretty good at first but now it does not make much noise. It kind of squeeks. What is the proper way to sand it. Should I sand the striker that is made of some kind of white wood?? Thanks for the help!

You do need to freshen the striker with sandpaper or other abrasive now and then. I don't know about the copper, but I would imagine it will have some kind of evidence of past sanding if it is something that needs to be done.

I own and abuse Chester CopperPot - and that is the name I gave my Prairie Copper Pot call made by Larry Gresser!

Condition the pot the same you woudl any slate call - Sand in only one direction. I use a small piece of Emery cloth to keep the surface usable......

Once in a great while I may lightly sand the tip of my striker as I use several differrent wood types to give me the sound I am after.

Here is Good Ole Chester Copperpot's work this year!

Say it with me - "Hey you guys!" (Insert taken fromthe movie "Goonies!")
