Difference between turkey load and std lead?

what is the difference between a std lead shot #6 mag shell and a comparable load classified as turkey? I'm not even sure what the turkey pellets are made of and which would have more killing power, and why.

loads

I believe its the drams of powder in the load. A regular #6 Pheasant load will kill a turkey dead. Before so called turkey loads thats all there was to use.

Your turkey loads are often copper plated for hardness and uniformity. There is alot of variation between the manufacturers. Unless it is designated as one of the heavier than lead tungsten alloys, its probably lead or copper plated lead -and yes, they kill turkeys just as dead as anything when you hit them right and at reasonable ranges. Not to mention they are usually way more affordable than the trendy newer loads.

Both the type of wad, shot and the amount of powder that drives it..no comparison in actual killing power...for the most part the velocity is not that much different but the individual pellets are much harder..copper and some of the new tungston based shot and some others such as Rem.HD and alot of others..they really penetrate and bust everything they touch..also the wad system stays with the load much further out than your standard high brass shell..world's apart for the most part..these are the good ole' days in the turkey shell business..
