Shot the Hevi's with my IC. WOW!
I got a chance to go shoot my new setup last night. I put a couple 3 1/2" Winchester Supremes down my new Indian Creek first to see what they'd do. I wasn't impressed. But then I let one of the Hevi-13 7's go. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. I've never shot anything like it! Because of camera issues I don't have pattern pics, but at 50 yards I had 133 pellets in 10". At 40 it is purely devastating. :hail:
I was a bit skeptical of the setup just due to the cost, but I'll be buying more of those shells. Give it a try! Mossberg 535 thumbhole Indian Creek .660 choke Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7 rw |
Sounds like you have a good combo there!

Good pattern, much better then some I've heard of. Just wonder what a .665 would do at the same range...

I still don't understand why some folks seem so leary to try the Black Dimaond Strike choke and Hev-Shot.... there is simply NOTHING like 'em and every N.W.T.F. World Record has proven that! It's not just opinion.... it's FACT!
I'm so impressed with their new Magnum Blend that I have no plans to shoot anything else! |
Indian Creek, with HeviShot 13, 3.5", 2.25oz. in either #5 or #6 out of my 835, outstanding

Yea I thought the same thing until I did some patterning test with hevi shot...
I shot the old stuff 1090fps and the new Mag blend... My Win HV #5's out penitrated both the Mag blend shells and the old Hevi13 #6's at 1090fps at 40 yards... My Win HV #4's blew them COMPLETLY out of the water... I read a lot about how the hevi shot is equal to 2 size's up on lead... I did not find this to be true... Yea it patterns better but it didnt impress me on the penitration... I shot a gobbler 2 years ago at about 50 yards with the old Hevi13 #6's and I definetly hit him but he jumped up and flew off... The only reason I took that shot was because of all the hype I read on these forums... Last spring I shot a jake at I know was at least 50 yards with Hevi13 #5's and I got the bird but it was the most alive bird I ever had to dispatch... People can say what they want about the stuff killing birds out to 60 and 70 yards... I say BULL ----!!! |
How fast are those HV's moving? Couple hundred fps faster I'd imagine. The heavier weight of the Hevi's and their slower speed seems like they would give kinetic energy similar to the lighter yet faster lead shells. The jaw-dropping difference I see though is the pattern. Of course I was throwing #7's and have more pellets, but I've never seen anything lead pattern like that at those ranges. My 50y spread looked like what I'd normally shoot at 30 with lead.
But what Mr. Longbeard is saying is another example of how each gun has a preference. Try til you find out what your gun likes. If the same thing worked for all guns, there'd only be one shell company! rw |

What did you do the penetration tests with?
