Help??? Mossberg 535 Pattern.
I am shooting a mossberg 535, xx full turkey choke. Remington priemier high velocity 3 1/2, #6 shot.
At 30 yards 118 pellets in a 10" circle.
At 40 yards ONLY 48 pellets.
Anybody shotting same gun and choke combo have a better pattern with different shells?
Also choke states shoot lead only, is it ok to shoot cooper plated loads or just lead?
Only have 10 days till opening day.
Thanks bornagain64.

I KNOW the Indian Creek and the Pure Gol chockes have been suggested by many, many folks on these forums. If only you would have taken some of that advice ?!? I constantly wonder WHY folks won't spend the lil' extra cash and buy the choke that holds EVERY World Record in EVERY class at the N.W.T.F championships for the last several years in a row.... it's not BS and clever advertising! Try the Black Diamond Strike from Indian Creek! Add some Hevi-13 loads and you will turn ANY shotgun into a weapon of pure turkey destruction. I haven't seen a gun yet that didn't love 'em!
Patterns that look like this consistently.... might be the best $80 you ever spend ?!?

My advice if you are on a budget: Buy a 20 dollar HS Undertaker choke and get a 5-pack of Hevi-shot 3" 2oz #6. You will be out about $40.00 but will be glad to spend it once you see the results compared to your current set-up.

I personnally only count the pellets I get in head & neck on a target, especially the brain & spine. As thats what really counts! I found w/my Mossberg 500 w/Mossbergs xx full choke Nitro ammo works the best. My boys also have same guns, w/Undertaker chokes. They also pattern just as good. Were getting around 40-45 pellets in head & neck area only at 40yds. I dumped a nice tom in woods at 60yds last spring. The tom was downhill from me, and turned out to be alot farther than I thought. My father & I both paced it off, and I was shocked!

I agree with several above. Get some Heavy 13 or Winchester Elite Extended range shells and a denser than lead compatible choke. The number 6 and 7 shot sizes in this stuff will penetrate well enough to kill turkeys at 50 yards if your gun will hold a dense enough pattern. And this stuff typically patterns much better than lead as well. The Undertaker choke is a good low priced tube. For a little more the Jellyhead from Primos isn't bad either. But if you want the best I would go with an Indian Creek, Pure Gold, or Rhino.

Another thing I forgot. I always clean and dry the bore of my shotgun very intensely and completely before patterning a choke shell combo. Clean and dry the choke too. You will lose a good bit of pattern density with a dirty barrel/choke.
