Choke/Load suggestions for Winchester 1300
For all of you Winchester 1300 users out there - I need some suggestions on what would be the best choke and load combination for the 1300. Im having trouble finding a combo that pattern good.

I don't know what you have tried, but I think a lot of guys go straight for "extra full" chokes and expensive loads, trying to hit on a combination that provides long range patterns. But because there are so many shot (lead vs. other stuf) and load (duplex, triplex, etc) types out there, it is not always easy to find the best combination for your gun.
I've never tried anything but the standard full accuchoke in my Mossberg 500, and with "cheap" Win Super X 3" #5 loads it will kill turkeys out to 35 yards no problem. That's good enough for me. Besides, spending $5 per shell makes me wince more than a turkey load testing range session. |
An Indian Creek, or Pure Gold in .660 shooting Hevi-13 3" 2oz #6's has been a proven winner for me. I have also had nice patterns with a Pure Gold .670 shooting the same load.
Hevi-13 has come out with their 3" 2oz #7 load, and it should be a good load as well. Of course you could just shoot Nitro #7's, and pretty much be guaranteed a good pattern. |
Got the same gun and shoot a Hastings .675 with Winchester Supreme #6's and rolled a tom at 43 paces.

Tried a few chokes and a bunch of shells out of my 1300 over the years, and I have settled on the Rhino .660 choke and Nitro Company's H378 plated tri-plex hevi-shot loads of 4-5-7. This combo has netted me a honest 316 pellets inside a 10" circle at 40 yards.
Now I see that a Hevi13 blend is now available from Cabela's spring catalog. Might try those shells when I run out of the Nitros. |
Paul, Is it correct that the Nitro's are getting hard to get ?
Not sure how they stand with the new hevi shot magnum blend but it would be interesting to see. Make sure you keep one shell just to try both at the same time on the range. I would like to hear the resault for sure.... |
