Threading a shotgun barrel for choke tubes please help!
 

Thinking of turkey hunting with my hand-me-down Savage 24 .223/20 ga. this year. This shotgun is a fixed mod. choke and was wanting opinions on whether to get it threaded for chokes. The walls are think enough to thread for Remchokes (I figured would be able to find the greatest variety of remchokes for 20 gauge). Is it a good idea getting it threaded or not worth risking the gun??

If You like the gun and it fits you well and shoots well by all means take it to a gunsmith and askk him that question.

To me the best thing tht ever happened was chokes tubes!

No longer need a closet full of specialty shoguns as one can do it all now just by changing a tube.

And do look a Briely after market tubes - far better than Remington IMO. I lke the extended tubes as it tells me quickly what I have in and I can change quickly as each is knurled. A bit more in cost but I definietly got my bang for my buck!

If you have it done, get somebody who's done it a few times and knows what he's doing. Those threads must be perfectly aligned with the bore or the gun won't shoot where you point it.

I had a Belgium Browning A-5 threaded for choke tubes 20+ years ago and it worked out nicely. I would only use a qualified gunsmith who has a reputation of quality work and is experienced in threading barrels for tubes.. It isn't cheap either.

www.colonialarms.com these people do it, if your shooting over decoys with a 20 3" move your decoys in closer. as said it expensive for chokes installed, realistily its cheeper to buy another gun. my model 24 is 22mag over 20 and gets used for small game.

Buy the Pure Gold, you won't be sorry. To many buy chokes and find out they are no good and are stuck with them. Pure gold will take back and exchange chokes until your happy...

The guy that is going to do it is very reliable and he has checked and said the wall is thick enough. I will reply back with how the process goes. Thanks for all your replies!!
