turkey hunting strategies
Which turkey hunting strategies do you use????
|
run n gun all the way! but now im trying with my bow so ill probably slow down a bit
|

Both - Why not ?
But, I am not dragging a blind around with me ! |
Both as they each have there place in the turkey hunting woods. You hunt them long enough and you will know that you will have to use each of them at different times.

I prefer moving and calling but I will do whatever it takes. Weather and time of year play a big role. When they are not henned up I cover ground 'till I find a hot bird. When the hens become more receptive I slow down a bit and hunt the middle of the day more.
Like someone else said, I'm not a blind hunter (unless it's raining, maybe). |
Haven't used a blind yet, but my answer is both.

I do both. I carry a fanny pack with everything I need except decoys. I carry those in a separate bag with a shoulder strap. My decoys are featherflex, so there is no weight to that bag. I can set up quickly before daylight and usually have a bird by 7am. If not, I can pick up and move easily. I don't use a popup blind. I wear the 3D leafy suit and that is all I need. But if I want more protection from wind or wet ground, I carry a military camo poncho in my pack. I can drape it over a limb to hide behind, wear it to stay dry or for wind protection, or just spread it and sit on it to stay out of the mud and water. My whole setup is very light and easy to carry anywhere, but if I judge that I won't need it, I leave it and pick it up on my return trip. If I abandon my setup to hunt nearby birds, I take my gun, my call, and usually one of the decoys and it's stake. I've had good success crawling up on birds that won't come to me, hiding behind a decoy in my hand.

Both...It all depends on the birds
|
My success rates have sky rocketed in recent years since relying more on ground blinds and good decoy placement.
