I don' t know if you' re asking about visual only, but I have had several occasions where I have smelled a turkey before, or at the same time as, I saw/heard it. They smell like warm earth with pine, to me.

Snowdog! There have been times I thought I could smell that " bird like" smell too... I hope you' re not " setting me up [&:]" At the time I thought that maybe I just wanted a gobbler so badly that I was imagining it?? Maybe we don' t give ourselves enough credit--for the animal senses that we do have...I' m sure we' ve all smelled that " rutting buck" smell in the woods--why not a BIG OL' wet gobbler;)

Jeesh! Maybe there IS something to that " Turkey Scent" ....of course it matters only if the Tom smells it and is " lured in by it" .....personally, I don' t think so...but I' m still learning too!

Well, I don' t think that turkeys have a very acute sense of smell, so I doubt they are attracted by/because of their sense of smell. But I can (sometimes, not often) smell them!! (I' m not a deer hunter, so I don' t know what a rutting buck smell is.)

I also thought it was my imagination but I think I have smelled them on a couple of occasions.

Well, AJH, if that' s the truth, you may be blessed. Then again, maybe you should check your boots more often,[:o][:o] especially if you notice you' re getting disgusted looks. :):D

Geeezzzeee, looks like I' m not that crazy after all!! I have smelled their odor in the woods as well!! LOL!!
The only thing that happened alot this year was that they came in from behind me a lot, and I couldn' t move to see!!! Most times as I went to pick up my friction call I would hear a puttt from behind!!!

i have smelled them too, not often though, wasn' t sure if i was losin it , but after my first gobbler , i knew they did:D
....i look for turkeys themselves, feathers, scratchin' ,poop, dusting, tracks, even just the toenails in the dirt/sand on a rainy day, those lil holes can still tell you approx. size and definately the direction the bird is going.....
i forgot strut marks[:o] ........:D
