RE: Can you remember the first bird that gobbled back?
Yes absolutely I remember GC!It was the second time I ever went turkey hunting and I was about 14 or so.My dad dropped me off as he was hunting the otherside of the ranch and before he got to the top of the hill I could hear a gobbler sounding off!I had no clue as to what I was doing and set-up way to far from the roosted bird.I must of dang near yelped the lid off that old box call and everytime I yelped at him he would gobble.I actually even seen the bird once a little later in the day and just as yourself was hooked.I mean hook, line and sinker. That was a couple of decades ago and theres been many breath taking moments ever since, but I still remember sittin against that oak tree yelping my brains out at that ole tom turkey and him a gobblin back at me almost everytime. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I learned to do a realy loud kackel on a slate, pop, pop, pop pop pop pop !!!!! and the woods lit up with gobbles. I was so turned on that killing one didn't matter as long as i got to talk to them. it is so great !!!!!!!

RE: Can you remember the first bird that gobbled back?
I was out doing some scouting before the season and birds were gobbling on their own when I got out of my truck. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was so excited, I honked my horn and slammed my car door just to make them gobble more. I had no call, and very little idea about what I was doing. :)

RE: Can you remember the first bird that gobbled back?
I only hunted deer and dove for the first 10 years of hunting. I knew that there were turkeys on my uncles land but I always wanted to bass fish and never tried to turkey hunt. A friend of mine talked me into taking him turkey hunting and with one box call and a mouth call we took off. When we got out of the truck and shut the doors of the truck 2 birds goobled. We walked into teh woods and got about 50 yards away from where we heard the birds and waited a bit. I hit th ebox call and when that bird goobled it was awsome. I waited and the bird flew down and I did not even have a chance to use the mouth call, I killed the bird at 10 yards and we were bass fishing 30 minutes after we started. That was mostly just being in the right place at the right time because it has not been that easy ever again.

RE: Can you remember the first bird that gobbled back?
I remember well the first time I heard a turkey gobble. It was about 1988, and I was up scouting an area where I had hunted many years for squirrels. I had read that turkeys were planted here and in the past I had seen a few tracks and feathers, so I knew the area held some turkeys. I had read a few articles on turkey hunting so I decided to go and see if I could find any birds. I was not in camo, and I was just walking old skid roads looking for sign. Then I heard it, a faint gobble way off in the distance. I started slowly walking in the direction that I thought the gobble had come from. I did not even own any kind of a turkey call yet. My heart was pounding with excitement just thinking I was in earshot of a wild turkey. After a few minutes and a couple of hundred yards I heard a gobble much closer than the first. I did sneak up to about a 100 yards when he gobbled the last time. What a awesome sound that was. He might have seen me because that was the last time he gobbled, and I never did see him. Tags were a draw then and I did not have time to put in for one, but was back scouting and hunting the next sping. I have been blessed to hunt every season since. :)
