RE: Pass up the shot because !
Good post BT!!An excellent rule of thumb is take the first available shot inside your own firearms lethal distance!Pressured gobblers and satellite birds do alot of peeking and often times just a head and neck is all your going to see. Also a seasoned gobbler in most cases isn' t going to stay around for long and usually gives you few opportunities so,TAKE THE SHOT!In my mind after harvesting lets just say a few gobblers in my time, sqeezing the trigger and knowing when to do it are the easiest part of the hunt!If you cant hit a Pepsi can at 25 yards with a scatter gun that in many cases is stationary then something is obviously wrong!!The key is knowing your firearms capabilities which as BT and Paul point the way by practicing on the range and a readiness afield to take that shot!!:)

RE: Pass up the shot because !
It was a funny thing after we got back to my Ranch , I have some thick woods 20 yards off the Deck on the one side. We walked in and paced off 30 yards and I folded a QuakerBoy turkey target and stapled it to the back side of the tree leveing the whole head/neck and upper body showing and asked if he could see that much of the bird. He told me he could see more of the live bird for sure! so I went back to the target ,,pulled it off and moved it closer to the trunk, and walked back to the shooting mark and said what about that ! he said NO I would not shoot at that at all ,,, so I said you going too right now .... He sat down , sighted and shot ---- 17 shots in the Head/Neck on tha target after the shot. The poor guy was almost crying :( and me /// well you all know me [:-]:D...BT
