uht oh!
i put my spurs in the vice to do some filing...went to take it out....i crancked the wrong way!! it wasnt tight at all..i had to hold it and barely pushed on the file...well cranking 1/4 turn cracked the one..its still whole but cracked..and i want them on a necklace type thing...i will probally wear it turkey hunting..what can i do to ensure it doesnt break completely? epoxy the cracks and sand it up nicely?? how do you polish them to make them look half decint fine sand paper?? and the one turned kinda white....is that normal? what can i do to get it black again?? thanx..this is my first time at this and am lost....

Try using the epoxy like you said but use a buffing wheel on a motor. I use it to polish claws from cougars & bears.....I don' t see why it wouldn' t work on spurs as well. If you don' t have one call a local taxidermist to see if he' d polish it for you chances are he will not charge you to do it, they usually do it as a favor for repeat business. |

Mauser, my 2nd bird this spring had a spur that was cracked where it attaches to the leg bone, apparently from fighting. I used the epoxy treatment on it and then sanded it. It' s probably stronger than before it was broken.
