I think it was a very good hunt and great video. However I feel like the hunter should have got to shoot the bird. Im being totally honest here and I myself would have been disappointed as a hunter if I was suppose to be the one pulling the trigger. Especially if it was a new state record. The guy that was suppose to pull the trigger must have been disappointed. If it was me and someone else was the hunter I would not have asked to shoot the bird. Just my opinion...

I've got to agree with Arrow. I think it was pretty selfish of Jake to ask the triggerman if he could kill the bird. His reasoning, it's a big bird? I guess because it was the hunters first bird, it had to be a small one, right? I guess if it were a jake or a two year old, then nothing would have been said. If I took a hunter out to kill his first, I would never even think about asking him, "since it's a big bird, can I take him instead of you"? Great video though. Just wish that could have been the hunters first bird.

I see both of your points. In Jake's defense this was the last day of the season, he had worked his butt off to call in 11 other birds for other people. One of the 11 was actually a much better bird than this one. A 23lb double bearded monster, he had his gun on this hunt also and the bird stayed out of the shooters view. Jake waited and made sure the shooter got his shot. Bill had his gun down as this bird was coming in, at 15 yards this was another reason Jake asked. Bill and Jake have been friends for many years, I'm sure Bill was bummed but there were no hard feelings. Jake has already promised Bill a bird for next season. But again I see were you both are coming from.

Thanks for your honest opinions guys. Truth be told, I hadn't been behind the gun in 3 weeks, and I was going to go on this hunt by myself and a camera man, my friend Bill had asked the night before if he could come along. I had already asked him before the hunt that if a big one came in if he would mind if I shot or if we could pull a double. he said it was fine, and he was going for the experience more than anything, it was his first turkey hunt ever, and the camera mans second turkey hunt ever, first time ever behind the camera. His first turkey hunt ever was the day before when i called him in a 20+ lb longbeard that he shot at 8 yards. I do feel bad about this and have expressed this to my buddy Bill, and he said he is glad I shot it that he wouldn't know what to do with a bird that big, and that it would ruin him. I do still feel guilty though.
