RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
Man, that' s tough!
At least you didn' t rack another shell and fire. You could have really had problems then. |
RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
Don' t cha just hate that. I had that happen once during a fall hunt, just went click though. I use a single shot and somehow managed to get another shell in and still get the bird (was just a youngin)

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
From your account of what happened I would say either moisture got to your powder or there was no powder in the shell and the primer forced the wad up the barrel. The second senario isn' t all that uncommon in the reloading world. I have had both happen to me so I feel your pain. [:' (]

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
i wish i wouldnt of deleted the pic of my barrel that the hubby blew up during duck season[:o]...most likely due to moisture.....ya' ll please be careful.....dont know if it was because of that for you, but just in case...a lil preachin' from Ma can' t hurt :D

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
What brand were they? I have a friend who had the same thing happen to him a few years ago in Missouri. I am now shooting the same brand of shells. I thought a few years would allow them to correct any mistakes. In 19 years of turkey hunting, I never had a Winchester or Federal misfire.

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
I had a federal mis-fire one morning, I did manage to reload and kill the bird though, after I got back to the truck I examined the shell and the primer was seated to deep, the firing pin just barely nicked it. I still have the gun and it has never done that again, it was a new shell and I have never saw one like that before. I always check my ammo now, that almost cost me a 23 1/2 pounder.

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
ive seen the same thing alot.....especially when me and my friend are reloading for skeet....its usally when theres a primer and no powder...it goes a little bang and the wad might come out and get stuck in the barrel and thats that.....id be writing a letter or making a phone call and sending them the shell as proff or something....sorry to hear that.....that or maybe the powder was wet or something........

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
I hunt heavily pressured public land gobblers and chances like that might only come once a year if I' m lucky. I think after that costing me a bird I would scrap that idea and go back to one of the big three. But on the other hand if WILD TURKEYS come easy every year then I might be willing to give them another try...

RE: Shell Didn' t Fire!!!!
Well at least you loaded a shell. I had almost the same thing happen Saturday but I didn' t load a shell. The gun made a nice click sound but no boom. Of course the bird ran off just my luck. I had hunted since daylight and this was at 1:30 in the afternooon. I bet I won' t do that again this season.
