Got my second bird this morning!
Hey everyone! I got my second and last bird of the season this morning, 21 lbs., 10 1/2" beard, 5/8" and 3/4" spurs. A good 2 yr. old gobbler. I awoke at 4 a.m. to less than favorable conditions, thunderstorms were in the area. I drove on down to my spot and ended up sitting in the truck because of fierce lightning and heavy rain until 9 a.m., then it let up and I gathered my gear and headed out. I was at my first setup for about 45 minutes with no response so I moved on down the timber edge about 75 yds., set up and called again and within minutes, 2 longbeards and a jake came slipping in. I was first alerted by a spit and drum![:o] I greeted the first tom with a swarm of Win. HV #5' s[X(] and so ends my 2003 season. I got a nice pair of birds this spring and couldn' t be more pleased.:) I' m going out Thursday morning with a co-worker to try and call him in a bird so it' s not completely over yet!!;) Good luck to those hunting now and to those whose season is yet to open.
