I know this doesnt have much to do with turkey huntin butive got a remington 870 express magnum at went to cleanin it today with the remington cleaner, a cloth, and fine piece of scotch brite. . .turns out i used a little to much pressure when using the scotch brite, and the result was the blued finish had bein rubbed off not all but most. And i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on what i should do or if i can put a store boughtblued protector on myself. Help!

I have to ask why you were using a scoth brite pad on your gun.

Good look with that stuff from the store. It gets messy and the directions ask for you to completely strip your barrel down and reapply. Your best bet is to leave it alone or get it reblued by a gunsmith. Take it to a good one because I've seen some barrels come out of the boil bath warped.

Well me and buddy were duckduck in the rain and of course my gun got all wet, and i thought i got it dried off completly but i guess i didnt causeit got a bad case of rust. So i thought i little bit of the scotch brite would help a lil bit but i guess not.

i'm pretty sure they make do it yourself bluing kits but if it were me I'd prob just bite the bullet (no pun intended haha) and take it to a gunsmith and have it done professionally. good luck either way

I took mine to a gun smith to have it reblued and when I got it back it was warped real bad I really need to get a new barrel.

Taking the bluing off won't hurt it but pay attention to a wet gun from now on!

If the bluing bothers you take it to a gunsmith. You might even want it re-done in Matte finish at this time to cut down the glare.

Now on any wet gun - NEVER store in a gun case but take out - open the action and dry in a coner for a day then clean and oil lightly. Also open the gun case used as far as you can and dry that too!

I learned the same way you did - Oh and never use scothbrite - use a 0000 of steel wool or better yet a brass wire brush....

Tetra Gun oil is the best stuff that i've found for rust prevention.
