I need to get a good locator call. what would you recommend and why? I was leaning towards a gobble call, your thoughts?
Thanks

I bought a "Big-Name(Primos) Gobbler Shaker", thinking Yeah! What makes makes turkeys gobble? Other gobblers. It does sound like a jake gobble. It worked good in my house and garage, but when I took it out one cold morning, it wouldn't make a sound. Buy a barrel style owl hooter, they know how to wake the gobblers up.

early morning owl call. late morning into afternoon crow call. never liked the idea of standing in the woods tryin to sound like a turkey when there are other hunters around

I have had the best luck with an owl hoot. I like to do it without a call. A litle practice and you have one less call to worry about. Crow calls used to work in this area but now are not much effective. We have alot of crows and hunting pressure. It will vary from region to region.Actually a peacock or pileated woodpecker works good in midmorning. Have fun with it.

I hate like heck to have to get 'em to shock unless you really need too. Crow call is my fave when necessary, but by the time your ears get back to normal from the loud shrill...the gobble is almost over with. Owl hoots are the least intursive IMO...but you usually have to be a little closer than you do with some other types of calls.

The only response I've gotten from my gobble shaker was from some nimrod near the road that started trying to call me in.
