2nd season - 1st Gobbler

First I apologize for not posting since buck season - been very busy with my business. But I had to come on and let everyone know what I got.:D
On Saturday I stepped outside to hear a gobbler just above my house. I circled around to get between him and the field where they usually go. Well, turned out there were 4 of them and they went the opposite direction when they flew down. I called and waited but nothing. An hour later I moved to a different area. A hen was calling and she attracted a tom which began to move towards me. He disappeared in a ravine and then the hen headed my way. She passed within 10 feet of me and then followed the tom. After so far she spooked and that was it for the day.
So, today I go to the same spot. I hear gobbles in the distance so I start calling. I' m using a homemade slate (my uncle made). Immediately I hear calling of a very bad sounding hen. It sounded like a goose. Turned out to be another hunter above me. He came my way and I yelled out to let him know I was there. He went elsewhere. After a while I start calling again and hear distant gobbling. Then suddenly a close gobble. I see him coming up the gas line towards me. I got ready to shoot but then he passed behind some bushes and trees. I had to hurry to re-position and as soon as he came into view he gobbled and I blasted him. Looked to be about 30-35 yards. I saw him flop over and then I could have yelled YIPPEE! Turns out to be an 18 pounder. 9.5 inch beard and two spurs measuring 7/8 inch. Felt like 30 lbs. carrying him home. I go in the house and the hubby says " I just saw two turkeys walk thru the yard and up the hill" So I say " That' s OK, mine is lying outside" He seemed very surprised I guess since I had no luck last year. We just had some breaded turkey breast which tasted good but was on the tough side.
