I have an 835..but with a Primos Jellyhead and Winchester Supreme Double-X Magnums. I absolutely LOVE the gun! Im thinking of trying Hevi Shot this year. I just put a Mueller MX-1 red dot scope on it. Your doing the right thing buying an 835, trust me. They were made to kill turkeys!

I've got an 835 with a Kick's Gobblin' Thunder choke that kille em graveyard dead. Was shootin' Federal Premium 2 1/4 oz #6's for years. Now that I'm down to 2 shells and they don't make them without the Flite Control I'll be re- sightin' her in.

I picked up an 835 last year. It patterned nicely witha jelly head .690 choke using 3.5" 2.25 oz #6 Hevi-13s. I wouldnt't limit myself to #5s without checking out what #6's will do. They can put a hurting on Ol' Tom at 40 yards and beyond.

I do. Best turkey gun made in my book (based on value and patterning).

It has the ported barrel, ported Star Dot .676, Bushnell 1.75 X 4 scope and Sim's pad. With the NITRO triplex 4X5X7 load (Load #H51013M) it will put 256 pellets into a 10" circle at a laser-measured 40 yards.

how is the recoil on that gun. i've been thinking about an 11-87 but the 835 is alot cheaper. which would be a better value?...............tony

Both of them will kick the crap out of you without modification shooting max turkey loads.Currently my 870 with factory pad and factory extra-full, non-ported choke kicks harder than my 835. It is a sharp, hard kick, whereas the Mossburg now is just a big push.

I had to modify the Mossburg, however, in order to tame it. Without these modification I wouldn't be shooting that thing because itwouldabsolutely stomp you shootingthe max Nitro Triplex load in stock configuration. With double porting (barrel and choke) and the installation of the Sims Limbsaver pad it completely changed the felt recoil. By adding a scope to it I increased the weight by about a pound and that helps reduce recoil also.

Iown and love hunting with both guns. In my opinion the 870 is a higher quality gun in terms of fit and finish. If you are looking to be a one-gun man and most of you hunting is non-turkey (wing shooting, waterfowl, etc) then I would recommend you go with the 870. If, conversly, this will primarily be a turkey gun then I would go with the 835.

Or do what I do, own them both. My 835 is a dedicated turkey gun (no other use intended for that firearm) so it should last me the rest of my lifetime.

Free advice and worth every penny.
