Mossberg 835

I was wondering if a mossberg 835 camo thumbhole stock with a 20" barrel on it is a good buy for $299.99. The only thing im worried about is the barrel length. Is it long enough?

Yes it is long enough....some would say a perfect size for a turkey gun.
If you are planning on shooting heavier than lead loads you will need a new choke tube since the factory one is not rated for it. If you are shooting lead you will be fine. I have gotten excellent results with an Indian Creek, and Hevi-13 3" 2oz #6, or Hevi-13 3.5" 2.25oz #6.

I posted this same reply in the guns forum.

I have an 835 with a 20" barrel. I got it to pattern pretty good with a jelly head choke and 2.25 oz 3.5" #6 hevi-13s. Its a standard stock and it kicks like a mule. The Sims limbsaver pad helps a lot. Its nice having a short barrel. My other gun has a 28" barrel and with an extended turkey choke, it was a pain to use for turkey hunting.

Take a look at the "How to PatternA Turkey Gun" Thread on this page.... bottom of the first post is my 835. 20" is plenty long enough. ;)

The 835 is an awesome gun. A close personal friend has one of the older Mossberg 835ultra mags with the longer ported barrel, and a newer with the short barrel and thumbhole stock and loves it. I still have the older model without the ports....and damn it kicks! [&:]

But to answer your question...you'll love the 20" barrel and thumbhole stock.

Dcnoble, I have the same exact gun and I paid $360 for it. I absolutely love it and would HIGHLY recommend buying it. I bought the gun and topped it off with a bushnell 4power shotgun scope and that set up is lethal. The factory choke patterns well with winchester #5. I shoot 3 1/2's. You won't be dissappointed. I got the gun two years ago and since i ve bought it I haven't missed a bird...... knock on wood. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Where are you from? Have you already purchased the gun? If not... DO NOT again I repeat DO NOT purchase that gun... Its a terrible deal! I will come to you location and pick that gun up so you do not have the misfortune of making a bad purchase....

Seriously... that is a great gun at a great price! buy it before someone else!

Yes I did purchase the gun. I live in Ohio and the gun was on sale at Buckeye Outdoors as well as Vance's Shooters supply here in Columbus. I put a primos jellyhead choke on it and a bushnell red/green dot scope. I have not got out to shoot it due to the fact that every local store is outof hevi- 13's and thats what I want to shoot, but I am planning a trip to cabela's soon to get some.
