.22 For Turkey
 

Would a .22 hollow point to the head be enough to kill a turkey. It is legal in my area I want to know if any of you ever tried it, because when I'm out I usually only carry my .22 or .243 around the farm.

The reason most people use a shotgun for turkey is that there is a small margin of error involved. If you watch turkeys up close, their heads are constantly moving, trying to hit one in the head with any rifle would be difficult. With a shotgun, you have a larger kill zone, usually 8-10 inches; you dont have this with a rifle bullet and your chances of getting a clean kill is marginal at best. I dont want to offend anyone, but I think you stand a better chance of wounding a turkey using a rifle. Sorry for the rant, but the answer to your question is technically yes, but I personally wouldn't recommend it.

What # shot would work good like #7, because anything bigger my 20 gauge doesn't group well, because it is a fixed choke. I could use my 12 with interchangeable chokes but it is lightweight and kicks like a mule.

Check your regs. Some states establish a minimum shot size. Here its # 7 1/2. I too would stay away from a .22.

Need to try a couple different brands of #5 or 6 shot. What kind of 12 do you have? I put new recoil pad on my 870, and have no problem with recoil; before it was a killer.
