Fly Down Time
When scouting this a.m., heard the first gobble at 5:15, which here in eastern MA is still dark. Two others sounded off and then, within ten minutes, sounded like they were on the ground and headed away. I trailed along slowly until I had a pretty good idea of where they were going to strut. I thought turkeys liked to see the ground pretty well before coming down, just in case a coyote or something was hanging out. When do you guys get fly down? I know it depends on weather, foilage, etc. but for early spring. Thanks.

RE: Fly Down Time
From watching them all the time in my yard it seems they really don' t have a set pattern . I have seen them come down when it was still dark one time and the same birds will be a half hour after first light the next time . I don' t know if that is the same everywhere but that is how the birds I watch here do it .

RE: Fly Down Time
For the most part I find the birds fly down just about a half hour before dawn. It can vary, but is amazing how regularly the birds hit the ground within a minute or two of first shooting light here in Maine. By the way first shoot is a half hour before sunrise.
