RE: Very interesting question!!!
I am hunting in eastern nc and up til today have not heard a gobble all week. But i went to attempt to put one to bed tonight just to say i gave it a try. and heard 2(shockingly) from two different turkeys.so things may be a little more promising for in the morning. What puzzles me is on pretty afternoons you hear no gobbles but after some of the worst weather of the year a few are gobbling.

RE: Very interesting question!!!
Dang I feel for you guys, but I got to say the birds have been gobbling good up here for 2 weeks. We had an ice storm last week and that shut them up a bit but now that the warmer weather is here their getting really fired up.

RE: Very interesting question!!!
When they don' t gobble they are hard to kill, or they are for me anyway. If you know where they like to frequent just set-up there and wait them out. Man they are tearing things up here in Mo. and its just a little over a week away.

RE: Very interesting question!!!
i' m like rigsbee hunting in the foothills of nc and i saw two gobblers and a jake this morning (opening day) but none of them made a sound. they were with the hens so of course i couldn' t get em to break away, but maybe another day. at least i saw some and that is encouraging. i did not even hear the first hen cackle or anything and usually they are tearin it up. at least the last couple of weeks anyway. but have yet to hear a gobble. must be all the rain -- thats the only thing i can figure. oh well

RE: Very interesting question!!!
I saw a lot of birds today but didn' t hear any gobbling at all. They have been pretty quiet for the last week . I do see a lot of the hens off by themselves so that is a good indication they have already bred . This happened last year and it was almost impossible to call one in .

RE: Very interesting question!!!
i' m hunting just below you in good ol SC.... the first opening weekend, it had been warm the whole week. so when i blew my locator call, i had 2 or 3 toms gobbling their heads off. but you have to love this " wonderful" weather we are having (note sarcasm).... since then, i have heard nothing and even worse, seen nothing. i hope the weather straightens out before the end of the season.
