I use a box call, slate call, and diaphrams. I don't use the box call very much, just on windy days and i use diaphrams the most.

Same here. I'd be too concerned to make anything that sounded like a gobble in some of the places I hunt. There are some real pieces of work out there.

1, 2, and 3. Mainly the mouth call, I prefer it for its versatility and lack of movement.

Prefer the box 1st, then the mouth call, and then the slate. Getting better at the mouth call, but I'm not very good with the slate though.

RE: Poll: What Calls You Use

I tend to use them all at one time or another. I think a lot of it has to do with the confidence you have in the call you are using. As an example, in 2007 I harvested more birds using an aluminum faced pot and peg call, while last year, they seemed to like the box call better. I hunt varying terrain each year, from the open country of Westen Texas and Oklahoma, to the heavily wooded areas of Missouri, and find what seems to work in one area also works in the other area's.

I will use a long box on a windy day to reach out a bit more. Short box sometimes, but my favorite is pot calls, perfer a slate with 3.25" surface and cherry wood sound board, one piece purple heart striker. Custom made of course.

I always carry a bunch of different calls because you never know what the Toms really wants to hear. That being said, the majority of the time I use a combo of mouth, friction pot and box calls. if I had to pick only one, it would be a Wood haven Cherry Classic Crystal or their Legend Slate.
