broad head = turkey death!
hey all, well I'm new to bow hunting and wanted to try my luck with some turkeys, was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what broad head to use for hunting turkey??

RE: broad head = turkey death!
A lot depends on your bow. Compound? longbow? How many pounds? Are you hunting out of a blind with mesh? You can do a lot of different things. I'll be using Outback XL 125 gr 2 blade COC heads out of both of my bows. Any head you use for deer could be used for turkeys. Many prefer a neck shot with something like a Gobbler Guilliotene (sp?)and just decapitate the bird. Mechanicals with a wide cutting diameter are also popular.

I use a compound bow with Grim Reaper 100gr Razortips.

Have killed with the Crimson Talons, but this year I'm trying the Turkey Tearror's. We'll see how they work.

RE: broad head = turkey death!
First let me say GOOD LUCK to you. I have hunted them for 5 years with archery equipment and it is not easy. I use the Hammer Head made by Trophy Ridge they open up 2". The Rage will also work I, like a large cutting blade that way if my shot is a little off I can still cut vitals for the harvest. I know there are newer broad heads on the market but the Hammer Heads have helped me take 10 birds in the past 5 years.
Good Hunting. |

I shot a turkey this fall with the muzzy 100 three blades and it only went about twenty yards but this spring i might upgrade to something else.
