30 turkeys

I'm used to seeing a lot of turkeys in the area of my land in Illinois since they were reintroduced about 20 years ago. But over the weekend, i saw 30 of them in a flock in my neighbors field in the middle of the day. That seemed unusual to me, or is it?

In the winter they will form big flocks, normaly the big flocks are hens and first year poults. the toms will all group together as well.

Yeah, it did have lots of young ones that are probably part of the same bunch that i drove my 4-wheeler thru back in the summer. I'm used to seeing them in bunches of 6 to 15, but this was only the second time i have seen a bunch this big.

Around here 20 is a small winter group. They will get into groups of 50-60. This is also due to localized food sources.

In NC and NW Oklahoma, it is not uncommon to see flocks of several hundred birds on winter wheat fields during the winter months.
