Is this enough to kill a turkey?

Hey yall, im using a 870 20 gauge w/ Federals 1 5/16 oz. load. I just Patterned my gun. At 40 yards i had 23 shots in the head and neck w/ 11 in the vitals, is this enough? I only shot twice with close results each time... its to cold out like 28 degrees Burrr.... Please reply

Hunt
I would try the gun at 35 yds. when the weather got better. That pattern would definitely kill a gobbler, but everything would have to be PERFECT. I have rarely shot a gobbler when that was the case. The 20 ga. is capable of killing a gobbler without a doubt, but as with all guages and guns, there is a limit.

IMO more than enough. I have shot several with a 20 ga and have had not trouble. I wouldn' t shoot it over 40 though, even if the pattern is good on paper. That is reaching for a 20. You may take a little flak for shooting a smaller gauge gun, I take quite a little from my friends. Tell the naysayers to go stand at 40 yards and you will shoot them in the head, bet you won' t get many takers.

40 yards,11 in vitals;that' s a plenty.I have taken several with 20 ga.35 yards is my max. with it.

a 3" 20 ga. is bacically the same charge as a 2 3/4 12 ga.[:-][X(][X(]

You' re in good shape based on those results. Actually the 20 gauge shoots at a higher velocity than most 12 gauge loads. Sounds crazy but it' s true. If you have the pattern(which it looks like you do)it' ll kill them just as dead as a 12 gauge at 40 yards.

My daughter' s gun is good out to 35 yards. Sounds like you have the right combo.

Good Luck!

Thats plenty of pellets. But I would limit my shots to 35 yards or less.
