making a paddle call

I' m thinking of buliding my own paddle call and possibly wanting to cut it out of a solid piece for the base. Does any one have either any good advice or point me toward some literature to try this out. Be real rewarding putting a tom in the pto using something you made yourself. thanx:)

Trapper ,
you can go to Turkey Zone online and they have instructions on how to build several types of calls. I actually built a little " slate-box" that was very simple and works wonderfully.

I havn' t tried the box calls yet but here is a pretty informative page....

http://www.geocities.com/theboxcallpage/

Also http://www.customsawing.com sales " Neil Cost" poplar blanks for long boxes. They also carry pre-molded paddles in a good many woods and also have hardware for box calls.

Neil Cost had a book on the subject but you might be hard pressed to find one and if you do it' s going to be $$$$$, I think it was called Talking Turkey
