Probems screwing choke tube into 870

I just purchased a rem 870 supermag andf am hing problems srewin both the undertaker an tru glo choke tube in to the barrell. The remington factory tubes go in fine. I am having a problem where the thread on the bottom of the choke meeets the smmoth part of the choke. I can onlyinsert the choke tube about 1/2 in before it becomes to big to slide in to he barrell. it feels like I would have to forecc these aftermarket tubs with alot of pressure from my hands.

Ifanyone has had a problem with this pleas let me know

Thanks,

David

Whatever you do don`t force them. It`s easy to replace a choke but if you damage the barrel thats expensive. This is a funny problem because I just got a Kicks Gobbling Thunder yesterday and I can`t get it to screw in either.

When i still used my 870 i purchased a woodwards turkey choke and it did not want to go in either. But i had great luck with the remington super full turkey choke which will go in your gun just fine.

RE: Probems screwing choke tube into 870

I have bought an Undertaker for my 870 in the past and that choke did not screw into my barrel. I took it back to the shop and the saleperson slipped it into another 870 with no problems. I exchanged it for another Undertaker and that one slipped in without effort.

This year I purchased a custom choke from Precision Arms. I brought the barrel in and threaded the choke for a good fit. I let my friend borrow the choke during a patterning session. and after he tore up the patterning to shreds with it, it would not rescrew into my barrel. He pleaded with me to buy it and I gave in. I went back to the gunsmith and he told me that 870 are famous for poor tolerancies in workmanship. He examined my barrel and said it was off and rethreaded it for me free of charge. Of course I bought another one of his famous chokes. I guess you are not alone with this problem.

Ken, I was just thinking the very same thing. Are you sure that the choke is for the make of your gun? Different chokes might have different threads and thread depths!!

HS Strut Undertaker choke tubes are available for many different shotguns. Is it possible you picked up the wrong model for your gun? I bought one for my 870 Super Mag and it fit flawlessly.

I' d take care there. I' ve never had any problems screwing other choke tubes into my 870.

Are you SURE that you got the right tube?

Yes i am sure the choke tube is made for the remington 870. It is model TG150 on the tru glo strut stopper and it used to fit in my 870 I had 2 years ago. I dont know whatr the problem is but Tru glo wont take it back and look at it since it is 2 years old.

I guess I am going to have to eat it and look at the ventilator since it is cheaper.

Thanks
