making friction calls...
 

today i decided to add to my arsnol i need a few more good friction calls..i have a ol yeller with a slat-ek surface and a cody envy single glass...i want a good slate..and looking at some 50 and up i was thinking...i love making strikers...why not order the stuff and make my own way cheaper and make it look way better? does the type of pot matter at all for sound?? i was thinking of making one with a zebra wood pot just because it looks cool and maybe a sassafrass..both will be stained green with my gree minwax and polyurathyn coated after wards..and does the slate over slate or slate over glass or glass over glass make a diffrent sound or is it just a gimmic so to speak?? i was thinking of making one a double glass and the other a slate over glass but dont know with the extra glass and slate is needed...what are your thoughts on that?? also anybody know any good sites that sell wood pots...glass...slate alumanum brass or anything like that that might be useful to me?? i got grassycreek and customsawing..any others i should check out?? thanx alot..

I made a new call this weekend, I made a QuakerBoys Triple Threat in a Walnut pot, and wow , it sounds nice ,, the walnut gave it more of a clear sound and it has some volume. Kinda neet I thought, sounds good with a Chestnut striker...BT

So do you make actual production calls for them, or did you just make a copy for yourself. I' ve got some design ideas of my own, just don' t have the recsources right now to produce them. Just askin' . :)

Mauser,here is a site that has all the supplies you need.I recently made a glass over glass call with a zebrawood pot.Can' t wait to try it out on the real thing.I sure love the sound of it so far.

I to use http://www.customsawing and love them. Thier shipping is fast and cheaper then Grassy Creek though Grassy Creek is a little cheaper on actual prices I think Custom Sawing comes out ahead. I have made several Sassafras Slate/Glass now and a walnut Slate/Glass, actually finished it last night. It' s louder then the Sassafras with a little higher pitch. Word of warning, don' t make just a slate with their pots, there too deep, you will need some sort of sound board such as slate,glass,metal,poxy, etc... The differn' t surfaces do make a differnce in sound. I like to use the double strength glass, it' s a tad louder and helps with the rasp when using certain strikers.

man wacker that turned out nice! i was thinking zebra wood myself...only..i think im going to stain mine green..that would look nice i think...nobody likes my green stain but for strikers and pot i think it will look good and not stand out.....how did u get the turkey in there? thats neat..is it just a picture in there or what?? thanx..nice call...im thinking a glass over glass and a slate over glass...did you use single pane glass our double?? and what about the second piece of glass?? thanx alot...im really interested in making some...i think they will sound as good as the expensive ones and look how i want..i like that idea...and i can make 2 or 3 for the price of one good one..and i dont need or use the strikers they come with so i will save there too.....thanx

I think I used double strength glass on top and single onthe bottom.The turkey is just a picture on the backside of the top piece.
