how hard is it?

last year a friend of mine said that the only way to hunt turkeys is to stalk them. now i am a pretty smart person, i would think that it is pretty hard to sneak up to a tom close enough to get a clean shot. he has gotten one bird this way and he said it was so easy, he didnt get one last year cus he is stuck on this method. please tell me how hard this is so i can tell him why he has to get with it and learn how to really hunt these smart birds. thanks. who_else

Looks like to me he has his mind made up! But then, as long as he is stalking, I will sit down range from him and let Old Tom walk by me! :D

i stalk them in the fall, theyre a little warier then i think, not so much hyped on hormones. the adrenalin flows. we stalked a group of 8 mature gobblers in their bacholer flock. i got my first gobbler. very fun, very hard.

Last year we had a very early breeding season ,so they wouldn' t come to a call very well at all . I watched one hunter collect all three of the birds he got by stalking . That may not be the approved method but it was entertaining to watch and very productive . If he had been the only hunter to try calling them I would have figured that maybe he just wasn' t very good at it ,but I also watched quite a few other hunters try for them to with no results .

I love to stalk trukeys, but you have to make damn sure you are not stalking a bird being worked by another hunter. To do so is a good way to get shot. You never know where a shot will come from or when, as the person working the bird may not know you are there. This very thing happened to 2 guys I work with, and they are. or were hunting partners hunting the same timber. [:o] Both believe the other was at fault, but in my opinion the stalker was taking a chance and lost. The shot was a good shot, someone just happened to be in the timber across the small field .
