an important ? for my fellow hunters
 

Being an avid hunter and a student i decided to give a speech about " Why hunters are Needed and why they are good." I was wondering if any one of you have any input that i could use or anywhere i could get some good info, it would be highly appreciated. I am already using the site www.wheretoshoot.org

i will try not to type a book...just a few little facts...hunters reduce the number of game just enough to minimize road kill....reduces animal and human conflicts because the game tend to stay away from large forms of civilization.....helps control the spread of animal diseases like CWD ect....maybe some reasons hunters ARENT as bad as we look...we care for the game we hunt and many of us arent out for the kill...we dont mass murder game and hurt the population at all....many of us hunters manage the game we hunt and take care of the land that we have left....and most of the real hunters ive met have been some of the nicer people ive ever met...when hunting i can say high and start a conversation with a guy i never seen in my life and its completly natural and not uncommon...you try that to someone youve never meet on the street...and hunters do not let kids have guns to do bad things with and do not teach kids to use guns improperly...they teach them saftey saftey saftey and more saftey...any real hunter knows saftey is the most important factor when hunting with a kid and teaches them everything they can to ensure they are safe with their firearm and know what its used for.....these are just some things i thought of that theres always contraversy about and if i was writing a paper id use alot of these...if i think of more i will be back...good luck on your paper....im sure if you run some searches on pro hunting and reasons hunting is good and things like that you will find mountains of information.....good luck!

There are alot of sources you can try. Any of the major conservation organizations (NWTF, DU, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation) should have some good info on thier web sites. Izaak Walton league. And the International hunters education Association web site www.ihea.com . These are several that come to my head quickly.

Lots of good info out there to support hunting. I' d start with your own state' s DNR to hit a little closer at home, so to speak. Find out how much money from hunters (and fishermen) in your state goes into wildlife conservation/habitat funds. Talk about predator and prey balances as well as overpopulation and disease, hunters feeding the hungry, teaching values, etc, etc....... Well, you get the point. I ain' t gonna write the report for ya, sonny. LOL. Good luck. :)

Anytime I see a NWTF sticker or other kind I usually strike up a conversation and meet another kind hunter.
That is what sets sportsmen apart.

I would say because hunters arguably have done more for conservation and habitat improvement than anyone out there. Groups such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Trout Unlimited, and others have spent millions to improve wildlife habitat nationwide and to boost wildlife population numbers. For example: Since the 1950s, the turkey population in the US has grown from 1.5 million to 5 million due largely in part because of the work of the NWTF.

Perhaps you could bring up the Pittman Robertson Act (i think that' s the name of it). This is a type of tax added to hunting and fishing gear that goes back to conservation activities. In other words, when you buy your turkey vest and calls, a certain percentage is taxed and goes to the Fed for conservation.
