remington 11-87 spst mag
 

I recently bought a remington 11-87 spst super mag 3.5in, truglow sights all that good stuff. I am wondering if anyone knows what 3.5 in shell patterns the best out of this gun with the factory superfull choke in? I am leaning towards using #5 shot and have tried the fed 3.5 2oz #5' s but i wasn' t very impressed. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Here`s something I noticed with alot of guns my partners and I have patterned. If a gun likes Winchesters it usually likes Federals too. If a gun doesn`t like either of those it usually likes Remingtons. Shot size has more to do with choke constriction than choke. Just something we`ve noticed over a few years of patterning alot of guns and trying alot of loads.

Try the Winchester HV loads in 3.5" #5' s...

I' ve always heard to start with the Win. HV loads as these pattern well in most applications. I wish I could cough up the money for Hevi or Nitro, but a dead turkey is dead no matter what shells you are shooting.
Not sure of the constriction on your choke, but generally the larger the shot, the larger the diameter of the choke tube. My guns shoots 3.5" Win. HVs #6s best out of a .650 Hastings tube, but then I was trying to get a choke that would shoot #6s for the # of pellets.

A guide for me is:
.650-.660 tube = #6 or #5 shot
.660-665 tube = #5 or #4 shot
>.665 = #4 shot

Try getting some buds together to split the cost if you can. Good Luck.

Patterned the Winchester 3.5 #5' s HV today. put over 60pellets in the head and neck at 30yds, which is plenty good enough for me:)

I usually don' t charge for the first ? But any more it will cost ya.;)
