The 140 acre private land I hunt has a 30 acre field with one wooded point. I like to hunt just inside the point facing the tip of the point. Birds walking the edge of the field on either side cant see me until they are directly in front of my at about 15-25 yards. I love to watch a gobbler strut and ease in from across the field 200 yards or so. The other areas I hunt are mostly open pines or logging roads with
moderate cover on both sides. If I can find good open fields with alot of turkey sign I prefer to setup just inside the woods edge overlooking the field. Ive had much better luck here than in the woods. However later in the morning and during the afternoon I will ease into the woods and hunt as the turkeys tend to be in the timber at this time.

I hunt mainly wooded areas but try to concentrate around logging roads and powerline cuts.

As for me I tend to hunt logging roads and areas like the powerlines. Where there are small strips of openings so I can be concealed in the timber but still be able to have a clear shot and have good visibility.

I like the dense thick areas myself. more places to hide and less chance of gettin picked off.;)

Good advice BT, those dang turkeys seldom show up where we would like them to.One time I was set up on a logging road and the tom came through a poplar slashing parallel to the logging road the whole way in.I had about a 6" opening that I shot him through when he stuck his head out.I always expect them to take the easiest route but seldom does it happen that way.

I like open timber and logging roads, etc. But Bosstom is right in saying you should go where the birds like to go. I enjoy a good challenge even if I get skunked because I always learn something and am always reminded that there are no absolutes in turkey hunting. And that tight shooting lane helps you to be more disciplined to make a good shot or pass on a shot altogether.
