How many of you are bowhunting Turkeys?
I' m interested to know how many of you that are in the turkey contest are going to be slinging arrows instead of lead. If you are, which type of broadhead will you be using? I' ll be using Rocket Hammerheads.

RE: How many of you are bowhunting Turkeys?
I will be doing both this season. I usually only do one or the other during turkey season, but I am taking some new young hunters out during this season that I would normally be in the bow hunting year in the alternation. I think more people should take the younger generation out and introduce them into the outdoors. I do every year, and wouldn' t trade it for the world.

I will be bowhunting turkeys here in Nebraska for my 10th year!
14 Nebraska Turks have fallen to my archery gear, which includes a great little bowholder of my own design! This little bowholder is the best thing to happen to bowhunting turkey since the ground blind! I got tired of tring to haul around those big hard to pack along bowholders and designed a bowholder that is EASY to pack along,it will break down tnto 2 parts with just a 1/4 turn,no nuts or bolts to loose! Another 1/4 turn its back together.....Shove it in the ground and your in business! They are built out of cold rolled steel wire and seemless tubeing, with a powder coated finish! They also have a protective rubber coating on the part that your bow sets in,if you bowhunt you should own one! You can check them out at www.stealtharchery.com |

I shoot the NAP Gobbler Getters when pulling the string. Maybe some could exsplain some of the shots that should be taken with archery, when hunting Turkeys. I would but I don' t want to look like I know everything ! :D...BT

Well BT, anyone who know me would ever accuse me of knowing everything, they know better than that!:D
As far as shots on turkeys goes, if you are confedient and good enough the head shot (I' m not there yet) is a sure and quick death. More power to you! The base of the tail on a strutting bird that is turned away from you is a quality shot, breaking the back and taking out the vitals as well. I know there are more, but I' m going to leave room for more guys to post. Gobble, Gobble, man I can' t wait! |
RE: How many of you are bowhunting Turkeys?
I' ll be using NAP shockwaves, and hunting out of a DB T-5. I' ve bagged four turkeys with a gun, now it' s time for number 1 with a bow!

RE: How many of you are bowhunting Turkeys?
I' ll be gun huntin a little and bow huntin a little . I' ve killed a couple in the fall with a bow, but never in the spring.
I disagree with the head shot. to small, and moves to much. chances of hittin the head are slim to none. shoot the wing if he' s standin broadside, shoot the back(my prefered shot) if he is facin away not in strutt. shoot the anus(or butt hole) if he' s facin away in full strutt. shoot for the beard if he' s facin you. and I' m usin the rocket sidewinder 1 1/2" cut.;) |

gonna give it a try!:D

RE: How many of you are bowhunting Turkeys?
The best advice I can give when bowhunting turkeys is be patient!
Let them get close, and then pick a spot! AIM!!!!!!!! The spot to shoot at?I prefer a side shot and aim for the spot where the wing meets the body,if you put an arrow in that spot he will not go far! Another good shot is from the front,I aim just above the beard, again if you put an arrow in that spot he will not live long! I use 100grn Spitfire mechanicals and if you are hunting turks with a bow you should be using an expandable,I have killed them with fixed blade broadheads, but the expandables are AWSOME on these birds, bigger cutting dia. and they tend to stay in the bird.Less pass throughs.
