Time of day---most successful
What time of day have you been the most successful in bagging a gobbler? I like being in the woods when they wake up---but I would have to say that I have had my best success one to two hours after fly down.
I have not tried very much after 11:00AM. How about you all? |
RE: Time of day---most successful
I would say I' ve killed most of my birds in the first 3 hours of the morning. Most of them in 30 to 45 minutes after fly down at my first setup or within 30 minutes after I relocate to my second setup. I' ve killed a few during the late morning between 10:30 and 11:30 but nothing after that.

RE: Time of day---most successful
Most of them within the first hour of daylight but I have taken some on up in the morning. I would rather fool with one for about 2 hours and not get him as I would have one come running in to your first call.

RE: Time of day---most successful
anytime before 10:00 when we hunted TX it seemed the birds were more workable in the afternoon acouple of hrs before flyup we can' t hunt all day here

RE: Time of day---most successful
My best success has come within 30 minutes after legal shooting time of 6 a.m., but like Lefty said, after moving to the 2nd setup and sitting for 1/2 hr. or has paid off also. I believe the latest I have ever taken a gobbler was the opening week of 2002 when I got one at 10:30.

RE: Time of day---most successful
I hope the best time of day is before 12:00 PM.
Here in PA, you can' t hunt after 12 for turkey. |
RE: Time of day---most successful
I have taken a couple of birds right after fly down, but most of the birds I have taken have come between 9 and about 11 am.

RE: Time of day---most successful
i agree with paintbrush. i have taken very few from fly down to the set-up. most of mine have come between 9;00-1:00. it seems in this part of s. arkansas it is hard to find a gobbler not roosted in the vicinity of hens. usually have better luck after the hens have slipped off from their early morning get-together:)

RE: Time of day---most successful
mostly between 9:00 and 11:00 for me. The two smaller (2 year old) were earlier, and I had one that I believe to be a good' un come in off the roost late in the season, I SHOT A TREE
